The Conservative party has been rousted in London as voters turn against the Prime Minister, but there are worrying signs for Labour elsewhere.
The local election results overnight have largely vindicated what I was told in the run-up to polling day.
Labour has secured their best ever set of results in London, but did less well in those parts of the North they lost to the Conservatives in 2019.
Yet amid the noise there are several clear indications of what we can expect in the coming months and years as the UK inches towards the next general election.
So do these results spell the beginning of the end for the Conservative government, or could Keir Starmer’s party be sleepwalking to yet another big disappointment?
