Boris Johnson was created by newspapers. Now they are starting to wonder if his time is up
The Prime Minister's complaints of media bias against him, shows the real danger his leadership is now in.
Are the press about to kill off Boris Johnson’s premiership?
Before I answer that question let me tell you about a prominent political journalist whose name I will not utter here.
This journalist has been covering British politics for some decades now and is a well-known figure within the industry, even if they are not a household name among the general public.
At one point this journalist was in a conversation with colleagues, and was asked what they see their job as.
After a little thought, this journalist then gave a quite remarkable answer. Rather than suggest that he saw it as ‘holding the government’s feet to the fire’ or some such cliche, he replied that he saw it as supporting whichever Prime Minister is currently in power.
Now it is not that this individual is a Conservative. Far from it. When the Labour Party was last in government there were few more enthusiastic defenders of the then Prime Minister.
It’s just that they see their role as demonstrating loyalty to whichever person happens to be in Downing Street, regardless of their ideology, or actions.
