Boris Johnson's leadership is now shot, however his MPs vote tonight

With just hours to go, the Prime Minister does not have a majority of his own MPs publicly backing him.

We will soon know whether Conservative MPs still have confidence in the Prime Minister. 

Worryingly for Downing Street, at the time of writing he does not yet have a majority of his party publicly supporting him.

This suggests that at the very least it will be a significantly closer result than Theresa May won by in 2018.

Conservative rebels I’ve spoken to today also suggest the result could be narrow, although not many expect Johnson to lose.

Speaking to reporters after Johnson addressed the 1922 Committee, Steve Baker said that he would be voting against Johnson tonight but that it was “highly likely” that he would not be successful in ousting him.

So is he right? I’m not entirely convinced.
