Can Boris Johnson still survive as Prime Minister?
The Prime Minister's downfall now looks inevitable. But is there still a way through for Boris Johnson?
The resignations of Rishi Sunak, Sajid Javid and a series of other ministers on Tuesday evening has set the scene for what looks like Boris Johnson’s inevitable downfall as Prime Minister.
A clear majority of Conservative MPs now privately say Johnson needs to go, as do most of his grim-faced Cabinet, and an increasing number of his supporters in the press.
In a damning editorial, the Times last night called on Johnson to quit, saying that the Conservatives have “no chance” of winning the next general election if he refuses.
Even The Sun, which has often been almost laughably loyal to the Prime Minister, now say he is in the “Last Chance Saloon”.
Yet despite everything, Johnson remains intent on clinging on, replying “fuck that” yesterday, when asked whether he would stand down.
So can he still survive, or is it now game over for the Prime Minister?
