Will the former Prime Minister’s political career soon be over in the wake of his shambolic Privileges Committee appearance?
Boris Johnson’s appearance before the Privileges Committee on Wednesday could not have gone much worse for the former Prime Minister.
Tetchy, rambling, occasionally shouty, and utterly unrepentant, Johnson seemed determined from the outset to make the worst possible impression on his interrogators.
At points, even his own lawyer Lord Pannick appeared visibly flabbergasted at the manner in which Johnson responded to their questions.
For their part, the committee also appeared wholly unconvinced by what they described as Johnson’s “flimsy” claims and increasingly bizarre attempts to rewrite history over what had happened inside Downing Street during the pandemic.
So is Johnson now heading for expulsion from the House of Commons, and the end of his political career, or could he once again slip free?
