Getting Brexit Undone

News that Rishi Sunak is set to announce a renegotiated deal with the EU on the Northern Ireland Protocol is the first step in the unravelling of the Brexit project

And so it begins. The news that Rishi Sunak is preparing to announce a new deal with the EU on the terms of the Northern Ireland protocol will be met with relief by many on both sides of the Irish Sea.

It remains to be seen whether the new agreement, if and when it comes, will survive contact with the DUP and the right-wing of the Conservative Party. However, the fact we have even got to this point suggests that the "oven-ready" Brexit Deal lauded by Boris Johnson back in 2019 has now started to unravel.

At the same time, the process of finally Getting Brexit Undone has begun.
