Some strange letters have started to appear on people’s doormats across London, ahead of next week’s mayoral election. 

The letters are headed with an image of the city’s mayor Sadiq Khan and the headline: ’SADIQ WON’T LISTEN… SEND HIM A MESSAGE’.

Now quite why anyone would bother sending a message to someone who won’t listen to them is difficult to discern.

As is the question of who the letters are actually from.

Few clues to their identity are contained within the main body of the letter, which does not reference any political party or candidate.

However, what the letters do contain is the suggestion that whatever happens, Sadiq Khan is probably going to win anyway.

“The mayor thinks he’s going to win this election easily,” the text reads.

“That means we have the chance to make a difference. Because if Sadiq wins by a smaller margin than he’s expecting he’ll be forced to sit up and listen to us”.

So who is this mysterious letter-writer, effectively conceding the result of next week’s election to Khan, while urging voters to lodge a vote for “someone else” in protest anyway?
