There has been growing nervousness among Labour MPs over the past week that Boris Johnson’s downfall could somehow precipitate a recovery for the Conservative Party under a new and charismatic leader.
Those nerves were significantly quelled by last night’s Channel Four debate.
Far from demonstrating a party that is about to dramatically revive its fortunes, the ‘Britain’s Next PM’ debate was instead an exhibition of everything that is currently pushing the Conservatives towards what increasingly looks likely to be a lengthy period in opposition.
So who really won the debate, will it change who ultimately becomes Prime Minister and which, if any, of the potential Conservative leaders should Labour be most worried about?
