Have we seen the last of Boris Johnson? Some of his enemies in the party aren’t convinced.

As I report in the upcoming print edition of Byline Times, the former Prime Minister retains a surprisingly firm grip on the loyalties of some in his party.

“Personally, I think bringing Boris back would be mad for all sorts of reasons,” one Conservative backbencher who backed the bid to depose Johnson, told me.

“But do I think that some of my colleagues might have the propensity to do that? Yes, I do”

Talk of a return for Johnson has grown in recent weeks amid polls suggesting that Rishi Sunak’s party remains far behind Labour in the race to win the next general election.

So could Conservative MPs be lining up Johnson for one final return, or has his goose finally been cooked?
