Why we should all now get ready for Prime Minister Liz Truss
The Foreign Secretary is now the favourite to overtake Penny Mordaunt in the Conservative leadership contest, before beating Rishi Sunak to become PM.
Liz Truss has just become the bookies’ favourite to become Britain’s next Prime Minister.
The results of the fourth round of the Conservative leadership contest this afternoon means she is now best-placed to make the final round against Rishi Sunak.
Fourth Round results
Rishi Sunak: 118
Penny Mordaunt: 92
Liz Truss: 86
Kemi Badenoch: 59
With Badenoch out in this round, Truss is likely to scoop up more than enough votes in order to overtake Penny Mordaunt tomorrow in the final round of MP voting.
If and when that happens, current polls suggest she will then easily beat Sunak.
A YouGov poll of Conservative Party members today had Truss defeating Sunak by a wide margin.
So is Truss about to become our next Prime Minister, or could something still happen to stop her?
